MACO 1927, Cologne

Feeling history

MACO 1927, located in Cologne’s Kunibertsviertel, is a building that tells a tangible story. Originally used as the “Cologne City Health Insurance Office”, the structure, built in 1927, was destroyed during the Second World War, rebuilt, and later refurbished in the 1970s.

Today, the existing structure is undergoing a meticulous core renovation and is being expanded with a new addition. The architectural concept, developed by Cologne-based firm Caspar. on behalf of the project developer Art-Invest Real Estate, deliberately fosters a dialogue between the building’s “historic” fabric and a contemporary architectural language – both inside and out.

Where once there were bathing rooms, new spaces for conferences or work are now being created. And for moments of relaxation, the terrace—with its breathtaking view of Germany’s most famous cathedral—offers the perfect retreat. Naturally, well-designed wayfinding will also contribute to a perfect visitor experience.
