250th anniversary of Caspar David Friedrich

Colourful and atmospheric. This is the approach taken by the University and Hanseatic City of Greifswald in 2024 on the occasion of the 250th birthday of the Romantic painter Caspar David Friedrich. The jubilee campaign also sees significant sites of Friedrich’s creativity and places associated with the artist marked with radiant yellow. Signs referencing his paintings such as the view of Greifswald or distinctive silhouettes of people highlight the celebratory atmosphere of the event on the roads leading into the city. In addition, information points with characteristic gabled form deliver general information and orientation for the key event locations. Off we go to picturesque Greifswald!

The wayfinding system of the anniversary won SILVER at the Indigo Design Award 2025 and is “Winner in Graphic Design/Communication design” at the DNA Paris Design Awards 2025.
