Prague Wayfinding System

Concise and elegant, restrained and unmistakable: our concept for the new tourist wayfinding system of the city of Prague and its underground railway network stands for connections, user friendliness and the creation of identity. The signage uses a uniform visual language to link the above and below ground urban levels with a focus on public transport. This works to the advantage of both tourists and locals. The design of the information elements and the signage font developed for this uses the alternation between straight lines and rounded forms to reference the cultural and historical legacy of the Czech metropolis, characterised by Baroque, Art Nouveau and Cubism. The accompanying APP extends the functionality, for example, to flexible, temporary information or additional touristic content. The unique linking of the underground railway wayfinding system with the touristic wayfinding system also brings the “city of 100 towers” into greater proximity.

Within the scope of an international application process, Studio Gourdin and Capitale Berlin were chosen to participate in the two-stage competition alongside three further teams, achieving 2^nd place.
